OVERVIEW
Colombia is the country with the greatest diversity of birds in the world. The variety of landscapes, many beautiful gardens with feeders, and comfortable lodges, make Colombia a spectacular place to photograph birds.
This tour offers a fantastic photography adventure, around the Central and Western Andes chains in Colombia. We will start the tour in Bogotá and then cross a big part of the country, exploring a wide variety of environments including Paramo, high altitudes in the Nevados del Ruiz Park, Cloud Forest, and the Chocó Region. We will visit many beautiful gardens as well, with feeders for antpittas, woodquails, hummingbirds, toucans, tinamous, and many more interesting species.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at the airport in Bogotá and transfer to the hotel. / Night at a hotel in Bogotá.
Day 2: Flight from Bogotá to Medellin, followed by a transfer to Jardín, with some photo stops on the way. / Night at a hotel in Jardín.
Day 3: Early morning photographing at the Bambusa feeders and surroundings. A visit to the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock Lek in the afternoon. / Night at a hotel in Jardín.
Day 4: Early transfer to the Lucia Feeders, a very nice place to photograph the Inca Jay and Acor Woodpecker. In the afternoon a transfer to Manizales. / Night at a hotel in Manizales.
Day 5: Full day working at the feeders and garden of the Rio Blanco Reserve. / Night at a hotel in Manizales.
Day 6: Very early transfer to the Color de mi Reves Reserve, the best place to photograph the beautiful Black-billed Mountain Toucan and many more species. / Night at a hotel in Manizales.
Day 7: Early transfer to Hacienda el Bosque, a fantastic place to photograph the Gray-breasted Mountain Toucan and Crescent-face Antpitta. A visit to the Termales del Ruiz hummingbirds feeders. / Night at the Hotel Termales del Ruiz.
Day 8: Early transfer to the high Nevados del Ruiz area for the Buffy Helmetcrest and then we will go down to the Tinamú Reserve. / Night at the Tinamú Lodge.
Day 9: Full day at the Tinamú Lodge. We will have very nice tanager feeders and also chances for the Golden-collared Manakin. / Night at the Tinamu Lodge.
Day 10: Transfer to Cali with some stop on the way to stretch the legs. / Night at a hotel in Cali.
Day 11: Full day at the La Florida feeders, with great chances to photograph the stunning Multicolored Tanager, hummingbirds, toucans, tinamous, and many more. / Night at a hotel in Cali.
Day 12: Visit to the Doña Dora feeders, the best place in Colombia to photograph the Toucan Barbet and different tanagers and hummingbirds. / Night at a hotel in Cali.
Day 13: Full day in the San Felipe Reserve with feeders and very good chances for the Chestnut Woodquail, Sickle-winged Guan, and the Multicolored Tanager. Late in the afternoon a transfer to the airport in Cali and a flight to Bogotá. / Night at a hotel in Bogotá.
Day 14: Transfer to the airport in Bogotá for a flight back home.
