OVERVIEW
Northern Ecuador is one of the world’s premier bird photography destinations, offering an extensive network of reserves with a remarkable diversity of species, comfortable lodges, and excellent feeders and hides.
This bird photography tour takes us to the UNESCO Chocó Andino de Pichincha Biosphere Reserve in northern Ecuador. This remarkable biodiversity hotspot, part of the rich Chocó region, offers an exceptional diversity of habitats. With over 500 bird species, including many Choco endemic species such as Choco Toucan and Choco Woodpecker, the reserve provides outstanding photographic opportunities.
During the tour, we will spend several days in Mindo, on the western slopes of the Andes, where two of the world’s most biologically diverse ecoregions meet: the Chocó lowlands and the Tropical Andes. This area is especially attractive due to the many feeders, offering excellent chances to photograph antpittas, toucans, tanagers, and woodcreepers.
We will also spend several days on the eastern slopes of the Andes, exploring the upper cloud forest, puna, and paramo habitats. Here, we will have excellent opportunities to photograph high-Andean species such as the spectacular Rainbow-bearded Thornbill, among many others.
A carefully designed bird photography experience that combines biodiversity, expert guidance, and exceptional photographic opportunities in Northern Ecuador.
