OVERVIEW
The Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland area is one of the two destinations of this photo tour. These floodplains are home to fascinating birds, mammals, and reptiles. Famous for its Jaguars, the Pantanal offers great opportunities to photograph this magnificent animal when it is taking a bath or a nap at the waterside.
The Giant Otter, Ocelot and the Giant Anteater are also treats for wildlife photographers. Different bird species, like the endangered Hyacinth Macaw, Green and Rufous Kingfisher, Jabiru, Plush-crested Jay, Toco Toucan, and the Red-legged Seriema we will also be able see through our lenses.
During the second part of the tour, we will visit the Atlantic Rainforest (Mata Atlântica), characterized by a high biodiversity. This ecosystem has many endemic bird species, some well preserved areas of forest, and excellent facilities for wildlife photography. Our target birds are the Red-necked Tanager, Green-headed Tanager, Red-breasted Toucan, Saffron Toucanet, Blond-crested Woodpecker, Yellow-fronted Woodpecker, Brazilian Ruby, Brassy-breasted Tanager, Festive Coquette, Violet-capped Woodnymph and the Golden-chevroned Tanager.
The South American Tapir makes a regular appearance at one of the lodges where we will stay.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at the airport of São Paulo and a transfer to the hotel. / Night at a hotel in São Paulo.
Day 2: Early flight to Cuiabá. From Cuiabá will go by car to our lodge in the Panatanal (4 hours) with photo stops. / Night at the Aymara Lodge.
Day 3: Full day of photography around the Aymara Lodge, looking for animals in the garden like the Hyacinth Macaw and around the Transpantaneira road, a fantastic place for birds like the Jabiru, Maguari Stork and many more. / Night at the Aymara Lodge.
Day 4: Transfer to the South Wildlife Pantanal Lodge with photo stops on the way. / Night at the South Wildlife Pantanal Lodge.
Day 5: Full day around our lodge and a boat trip to photograph birds like the Black-collared Hawk and Yacare Caimans. We also have a good chances to photograph the elusive Ocelot at the lodge, where it is fed at night. / Night at the South Wildlife Pantanal Lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Porto Jofre by car and then by boat to our floating hotel. In the afternoon we will have our first chance to photograph Jaguars. / Night at the Floating Hotel.
Day 7, 8: Two full days searching for Jaguars by boat. / Night at the Floating Hotel.
Day 9: Transfer to Cuiaba and a flight to Campo Grande followed by a transfer by car to the Pequi Lodge. / Night at the Pequi Lodge.
Day 10, 11: Two full days at the Pequi Lodge, a nice place with feeders for the Plush-crested Jay and Hyacinth Macaw, and great place to photograph the Giant Anteater, Red-legged Seriema, Greater Rhea. / Night at the Pequi Lodge.
Day 12: Transfer to Campo Grande for a flight to São Paulo. If there is enough time, we will visit the feeders of Sítio Macuquinho. / Night at a hotel in Sāo Paulo.
Day 13, 14: Transfer to Trilha Dos Tucanos in the Atlantic Forest, where we will spend two full days. It is a great place to photograph many species that are visiting the feeders, like the spectacular Yellow-fronted Woodpecker. / Night at Trilha Dos Tucanos.
Day 15: Transfer to the airport of São Paulo for a flight home.

Transportation: Private car/van, boat.
Climate: Warm and humid. Sometimes cold temperatures in the Lowland Wetlands. Humid in the Tropical Forest and Savannas in Pantanal. Warm and humid in the Atlantic Forest, with some cold hours in the mornings.
